PRIVATE STUDIO

I currently have a thriving home studio in the Browns Point area of NE Tacoma, right on the border of Federal Way.  Students currently travel from all over the Puget Sound including Seattle, Auburn, Kent, Graham and even as far as Mt. Vernon!

I teach both voice and piano lessons, you can learn a bit more about each below.  Students range in age from five years old all the way into their late 60's and early 70's. I teach very early beginners to working professionals in the musical theater and classical world.  Many of my students are very active performers at places such as Village Theatre in Issaquah and The 5th Avenue Theatre.  I offer two studio recitals per year plus fun activities throughout they year including group lesson for all students 18 and younger and a fun Christmas Open House where we play and sing and eat cookies!  To learn more about each area please see below.

Voice Lessons

  • I value the diversity of someone's voice, therefore I am not looking to pigeon hole any one voice into a specific genre rather to explore the whole voice within different and varied styles to really grow and learn about your voice as a whole.  I teach from a classical perspective first, working on solid breath control, very specific placement and tone quality.  I also bring the classical technique into musical theater style singing - specifically exploring "Belt" and the "Mix" which many teachers will stay away from for fear of damaging a singers voice.  I have proven techniques to help you not only find your belt and mix but to move them seamlessly into your classical voice, allowing you to really thrive as a vocalist!  Because I am a genre busting vocalist myself, this is very important to me as a teacher.

Current students include seasoned professionals or those attempting to bust into the music scene in Seattle, specifically in Musical Theater.  Because I play the piano and many times will play for season generals in the area, I also offer vocal coaching for any upcoming audition you may have.  High School students participate in competitions and have gone onto the State level in solo and ensemble.

Piano Lessons

  • I love teaching piano!  I teach from a solely classical perspective with solid technique and a great foundation to play whatever you would like to play.  Students learn and grow through very specifically selected repertoire for each student.  At their first lesson, I sit with them and take through a series of test to determine your skill level - even if you are a very new beginner!  I pay attention to how you learn and how you focus and then pick your books based on what I learn.  No student is alike therefore, many times, no two student is studying from the same set of books!

As with my singers, I think it's important to play and explore a variety of genres.  Therefore, we will also play a little jazz, a little pop, a little Ragtime and a little Broadway to really make sure you are learning great things but also having a great time!  I put a large emphasis on sight reading and rhythm skills, students typically will be given something to sight read at almost every lesson to really build their reading abilities.  As a sight reader myself, I know how valuable that skill is but also how rewarding it is to sit with a piece and be able to learn it quickly within my particular skill set.

Piano players participate in group lessons (under 18) with kids in their age group and skill set.  We have a great time!
